What we’ll cover

Tips to make the web a cleaner, greener place

By 2025, the communications industry is predicted to consume a jaw-dropping 20% of the world's electricity.

Often thought as intangible, the Internet is a vast digital expanse where every click, swipe or download feels weightless, yet conceals a significant environmental impact. Each action we take contributes to carbon emissions, despite the absence of physical waste.

Given the continuing and irreversible global trend toward digitisation, we all have a responsibility to ensure the Internet evolves in a sustainable way.

During her talk, Natalie de Weerd will share some tips for monitoring your digital CO2 output, as well as some actions you can immediately put in place to improve both you and your website’s digital sustainability.

About Natalie de Weerd

As the self-proclaimed “Queen Nerd” of Altavia, Natalie heads up a team of talented digital designers and developers, serving a client list which boasts iconic retail brands.

Her role encompasses overseeing a wide spectrum of digital projects that flow through the organization, from conceptualisation to execution, all while keeping abreast of the latest industry tech.

Net Zero for West Northants: What local businesses need to know

Members of the Sustainability team at West Northants Council will be talking about an exciting new project funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Starting in September 2023, TANZ West Northants is a two-year Net Zero project designed to empower local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across West Northants to understand and embrace the concept of Net Zero.

The mission is clear: to raise awareness of Net Zero and guide businesses toward concrete actions that will advance West Northamptonshire Council’s target of achieving Net Zero by 2045.

About the team

The Sustainability team at WNC is a newly-formed team with the aims to deliver the Council’s commitments by engaging with colleagues, businesses, schools, and residents on how to implement sustainability in their jobs and lives.

The team educates about the social and economic issues related to sustainability and delivers the Council’s sustainability pledges:

  • Achieve Net Zero on all council operations by 2030 and those of residents and businesses by 2045

  • Take a community leadership role for sustainability in West Northants

  • Ensure all Council strategies and policies are aligned to and contribute to the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
