New home, new event: S-SA Digital bring their passion for tech recruitment to Vulcan Works

In the third of our Vulcan Works mini-series, Darren Sharp from S-SA Digital talks us through their new surroundings and the brand new event they’re bringing with them.

We've just moved into the Vulcan Works. One of the main reasons for being in Northampton's town centre is that it’s a great location for us, with ease of transport to the office, especially as we are now about to grow our resource team.

I came into town two years ago when Vulcan Works was being built and saw the construction work, but I'd already been aware of it through Digital Northants.

I always think things happen for a reason.

We came to the first of the Vulcan Sessions organised by Digital Northants and we thought the building looked phenomenal. Now here we are.

There were two thought patterns to coming into Northampton town centre.

One was: to help with staff attraction. We have six people at the moment and we're looking to grow and being in the town centre helps, especially now with the Vulcan Works giving us such a great workspace. People want to go out and get something to eat - there are loads of options.

It gives staff much more flexibility, a better experience. The guys here can get together for lunch and then you see the culture of working for us start to build. It ticks a lot of boxes for staff to keep them happy - and naturally, retention and attraction will go up.

Secondly, if you look at what we do with Digital Northants and what we do locally: we talk about Northampton; we champion Northampton. It just made sense to be in a space we have championed and supported and to be in the thick of it all.

There's a nice buzz about the Vulcan Works and it has a real sense of community. Coupled with the environment it offers, there is nothing else like it in Northampton. In the first few weeks being here, we have had more face-to-face meeting with candidates and clients than we have ever had.

The next big thing which Vulcan Works gives us is the chance to start organising our own events.

Digital Northants events are great, but we have always wanted to host something ourselves too. We want to help build a community which is tech-specific, ideally aimed towards developers.

We see with Digital Northants events that people come in, speak to each other and learn from each other and there’s a real sharing of knowledge which people can then go away and utilise.

We decided to launch NN1 Dev Club, a regular event for developers. There's so much that developers can learn from each other and share, especially since remote and hybrid working options have become so popular - some developers really miss that interaction.

Naturally, the invite will extend to the universities too, so computer science degree students and graduates can come and sit with experienced developers, find out what they're doing, discover issues, understand the market they’re going into and bring the community together.

As a business, we’re set up to be a strategic partner in the realm of digital recruitment. Trusted by hiring managers and talent teams alike, we specialise in crafting custom talent attraction campaigns while fiercely championing your employer brand in today's ever-changing marketplace. We offer both permanent and contract recruitment solutions, each tailored to our client’s specific needs.

At S-SA Digital, our expertise isn’t just limited to recruitment. In fact, that is just a by-product of what we know and do. We cover everything talent market-orientated, whether that be market mapping your competitors or local talent, advising on diversity and inclusion, or securing the best talent in the market place.

I can honestly say we as a team are truly passionate about what we do. The message from us is that we're here, reach out to us, sit down with us and we'll go through what the local market looks like with you. We're here to help build our community.
